My Journey in the Electric Utility Sector

I entered the electric utility sector two days after graduating from college in December of 1976.  At that point in time, an electric utility was vertically integrated with full responsibility for the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity.  As my career evolved, so did the industry.  This sector now encounters the increasing need to improve operational excellence, deregulated energy markets, a focus on renewable energy, electrification, decarbonization, smart grid technologies, EVs and extreme weather events.  During my 44+ year career in this space, I was fortunate to have opportunities and supporters to enhance my journey, to whom I am forever grateful.  I was encouraged to continuously get out of my comfort zone and not become complacent.  The encouragement afforded me to acquire experience in financial accounting; internal auditing, tax; business planning; regulatory affairs, line operations; customer service; and smart grid technology.  I held leadership roles such as:  Customer Services Director; Assistant Controller; and Program Manager, Smart Meter.  Throughout my career, I was recognized for my business acumen, communication skills, decision-making, problem-solving, and employee development.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges being faced by the electric utility sector today include:
